Ravenslade worked with an experienced multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide full Project and Cost Management services and to lead the RIBA Stage 2 feasibility study to inform the OBC for Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust at North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple.

This was a major and technically complex study of a 1960s hospital theatre suite, assessing the current condition, replacement ventilation strategy, and design and cost options for refurbishing the four main theatres located at the centre of the hospital. As part of the feasibility brief, it was essential to maintain continuity of hospital services and minimise disruption during construction.

The solution included:

Implementing a carefully detailed phasing programme for the main works.

Undertaking enabling works, including modular theatres for use while the main theatres were decommissioned.

Developing a comprehensive safety plan to manage contractor access and ensure segregation from patients and hospital staff.
